AUGUST 26, 2008 - OFFICINE PANERAI COMES TO JAPAN WITH THE OPENING OF ITS BOUTIQUE IN TOKYO

Choosing as its natural location the most exclusive shopping district in the Japanese capital, the Panerai Boutique proposes a rich collection of Italian watches
Continuing the development of its exclusive sales network, Officine Panerai opens its first Boutique in Tokyo.
The new Panerai Boutique is situated in the centre of Ginza, a city precinct that has become legendary for exclusive shopping in the heart of the world’s largest metropolis. The city of Tokyo alone has over 12 million inhabitants and the entire urban conglomeration has a population of around 26 million.
The Panerai Boutique is situated on Namiki Street, an important thoroughfare in Ginza where in recent year the most well-known international names in fashion and jewellery have opened, a small metropolitan paradise on a par with addresses like Avenue Montaigne in Paris or Via Montenapoleone in Milan, which during the weekend is transformed into a relaxed pedestrian area.

Ginza, a name deriving from the ancient mint that produced silver coins, is an area containing art galleries, cinemas, the celebrated Kabuki Theatre, opened at the end of the nineteenth century, and is above all a dense network of department stores offering exclusive names from the world of high fashion, cosmetics and fine jewellery.
The Panerai Boutique proposes an exclusive collection specially created a clientele of Panerai collectors and experts. The success story of an Italian brand that has maintained a perfect balance between state-of-the-art technology and aesthetic simplicity.
Since its beginnings, around the mid-nineteenth century, Panerai’s creative research has directed its attention to the continuous technical and scientific innovation of its products, creating watches that are unique for their quality and classic features.
The Panerai models possess qualities which make them somehow timeless, to be worn yesterday as today, perfectly suited to the most authentic sense of the classic and therefore likely to become an investment for the future.
The showroom area of the Namiki Street boutique is characterized by an Italian design concept inspired by the sea, the element which has always accompanied the history of Panerai watches, originally conceived for use under water and capable of working perfectly even at great depths. Porthole-shaped display panels that recall maritime fittings, shop windows that take on the shape of ocean waves and furnishing details that echo diving suits and divers’ equipment all form part of a clean, linear style. The modern interpretation of a nautical theme uses various materials among which teak and steel are predominant. These are used against back-painted walls recreating the surface of the water, wire mesh panels and sketches and graphic inventions stylizing the shape of the watches themselves.
The models on display in the windows of the Panerai boutique in Tokyo are those that have made the long-established Florentine company famous.
